Doing project survey or Makan?

Due to the project of menu planning and pricing, we have to do a group project. Just assume that we are going to own a new restaurant, but before start the new business, we have to write a proposal which consists of concept and theme of restaurant, we have to choose a location and give reason of that, and thus, we have to do some survey in the area of customer, location and the competitors. Our group did some market survey before in some different places in town area. But still not happy with that, so today we have decided to do a survey again in a place called Dempsey Hill, where is a nice and peaceful place. Got a lot of car park space, get there by public transport, the competitors are not as many as other places.

We met up with each other and got there together. Before we start the survey, we went for some cooling and refreshing desserts since the whether was freaking hot. We went to Ben & Jerry ice-cream restaurant. It’s full house when we got there. It’s family day on Sunday. Everyone was enjoying their lovely ice-cream over there. So are we. We ordered a dessert platter, consists of 6 selection of cakes and 2 scoops of Ben & Jerry ice-cream, cost $16.90++. It’s taste so good, especially it’s a bloody hot day. The flavor between every cakes and the ice-cream were perfect matched, sweetness of the chocolate, sourness of the lime and cherries. Wonderful!

I’m an ice-cream person, so I ordered another dessert, brownies special, topped with one scoop ice-cream, whipped cream, caramel and nuts. Oh yummy~~~~ Irresistible…

Mango is my favorite, so I ordered a mango sherbet ice-cream. It’s not as good as what I expected. A lil bit disappointed.

After that, we started our interviewed towards most of the restaurant there. Once we done with it, we went to kopitiam nearby the Holland Village for “high tea” – fruit juice and “zhui kuey” LOL… Actually we wanted to go for XO fish head noodles as our dinner. But the food stall haven’t open yet, so just get a place and take a break.(good excuse)

"Zhui Kuey"

It’s time to have our dinner! We ordered two XO fish beehun, a fried prawn roll, one vegetable and a rojak. The rojak was sucks. So can avoid it. The XO fish beehun was not bad, the sweetness of the fish, and the XO alcohol not too strong, just nice. The fried prawn roll and vegetables were just so so. All of us were quite enjoy the food. Today seems like a makan trip rather than a project survey day. Well, we still got the information we wanted after all.

Too hungry, this picture was taken during the half way eating. "Eat first, Think later" LOL.

Do project survey successfully, and yet, could enjoy the food that we found at the same time. Spent useful time on a day. One stone kill two birds. Well done!

Last Month's Event - FHA

So busy lately, not much times to spare on blogging recently. Lazy to write too long, so upload some nice food picture, can see but cannot eat. LOL….

There’s a culinary event in Singapore in April – Food and Hotel Asia, held in Singapore Expo. All kind of foods, kitchen tools, food industry machines will be exhibited in these 3 days.

You’ve gotta pay 80 dollars for the entrance fees. But we got to enter by free of charge due to the student pass. You would like it cause you got a chance to try all the foods from all over the world for free! Which most of the foods you can’t even get in the market. Those food companies were looking for the distributors in Singapore to explore the market in Singapore. Guess what, I saw the famous celebrity chef, chef in black – Emmanuel Stroobant. He was there to be the judge of the cooking competition.

The appealing of the desserts were so beautiful that eaten begrudgingly.

This dessert was the one I like the most among all.
It's Pennsylvania dessert company in US. It taste soooo nice~~~ yummy~~~

Here's some pictures of the cooking competition.

If you wanna dine in, you can pay 50 dollars and have this buffet,

Last but not least, there's some artistic products that made from sugar.

Thus, basically you could try different kind of foods, desserts, cheese...
You will be satisfied from vision, olfaction and gustation by the foods. Bravo!

Hunt for Food II

Finally finished my exam for my first semester of culinary skills. Hope to score in Food Knowledge and Catering Science. So touch when I saw the comments from my buddies who are studying in States now. Thanks for cheering me up. All the best to you guys too.

Well, I went to one of my classmate’s cousin’s pub. (got free drink :p) with my Gabriel and Lee. Then we drink like crazy till don’t know what time. Actually most of us felt a little bit dizzy, we stopped drinking and went to eat supper,(ginger and spring onion frog with porridge). Didn’t get any shot for the food since I didn’t bring along my camera, and we just concentrate to eat. LOL. Reached home and took shower and slept at 5am. I’m going back to Malaysia at tomorrow’s night, so excited. Can’t wait for it!

I had lunch with friends before went back to Malaysia. I finally found Penang Laksa in Singapore. Miss the taste so much. I also found a Nasi Lemak with a quite good sambal(Chili Paste). Other than that, we also bought some Japanese BBQ snacks, Taiwan friend chicken… We ate like there’s no tomorrow. We walked around after having a lot of good food. Wandering around…. Then some of them went for movie, but me and others continued to hunt for food. LOL. We walked to Plaza Singapore and I found a Turkish restaurant that selling authentic kebab. It was owned by Turkish. The kebab was nice, the meat was tender and flavorful enough, the salad was just nice, and every ingredient goes well with each other when combined together. Fabulous! We couldn’t take any food anymore, too stuffed. But we didn’t care; it’s a big day of eating. We went for some dessert as a sweet ending. After that, our tummies were so round and big like a pregnant woman. Good time!

<-- our food...

Vanakkam (Hello in Tamil)

Sorry for late updated due to busy time lately. I wrote all my blog and save into my laptop but didn’t update. So I will tell you all what’s happened to recently. Start from Little India trip!

Woke up as early as usual school time, fatigue and sleepy. It’s because of the class outing, Little India trip with classmates and course tutor. Attired with Bermudas and a backpack. Almost everyone went to the Little Indian trip today. We departed at 9:30am due to the late of Ms Ong. Everyone seems like so energetic and exciting although most of them been there umpteen times. Perhaps all of our tour guides were girls. LOL. We reached Little India in 30 minutes and went for breakfast in an Indian restaurant that just right behind the Mustafa shopping centre. It’s typical Indian food, Tosai. (a typical South Indian breakfast, high in carbohydrates and proteins. Tasted sour and usually served with dal together. Called Dosa in South India). Here was my first Indian meal in Singapore. I’m not fans of Tosai, but I do know what’s a good Tosai. It should be thin, a little bit of crispy, not too sour, not oily and no raw flour taste. Dal must be concentrate enough with strong beans flavor. After an extremely sweet Teh Tarik (Pull Tea). Tour started!

Mustafa shopping centre, Hindu Temple, traditional spice grinder, market, House of Tan Teng Niah, and much much more. It was freaking hot and tiring, until the little India amazing race part, everyone was turned into so energetic. We ran here and there just like mice going nowhere. My team got runner-up in the end.

Final exam is just around the corner. Everyone is stress. Yes. We are stress and need to release. We went to Wayne’s birthday and had fun till late night. Drank some liquor. Some of them even swam in the rain. After that, I went for supper with friends in Ang Mo Kio. Reached home at 3am and woke up at 1pm next morning. I wish I could enjoy my life like that, hang around, gossiping, drinking. What a good time!
